My Typical Shave With A Dovo Shavette

I couldn’t sleep, so I figured I would write a quick post of a typical shave for me with a Dovo Shavette Razor. If you are familiar with wet shaving and/or straight razor shaving you will find that I don’t really follow a lot of the typical customs such as going WTG, then XTG, and finally ATG.

Additionally, I really don’t like going through the entire process of using a hot towel. Even though I’m sure it’s enjoyable, I usually have other things I like to do with my time. I have developed a shaving process that I like, I encourage you to find a routine that works for you. Without further adieu this is what a typical shave looks like for me:

Most of the time I start out by applying hot water to my face. This is due to the fact that I shower at night instead of the morning. In a lot of the forums you will read that people suggest taking a hot shower to help soften your beard and make it easier to shave. I will agree with this advice. However, I have found that applying hot water to my face works equally well.

At this point I will apply hot water to my badger hair brush. Again, a lot of times you will read where people will read that they like to let their brush soak for 10 minutes. I don’t like to wait around for my brush to soak for 10 minutes, so I just put it under hot water and call it good.

Now it’s time for the shave. If it’s been more than 24 hours since I last shaved I will usually start off going with the grain. Then depending on the situation I might do an additional pass against the grain to get a closer shave. Typically, I will do two passes on the weekend when I have more time. I tend to sleep as late as I can during the weekdays before I have to get out of bed for work, so I sacrifice the BBS(baby butt smooth) shave for an extra few minutes in bed.

If it’s been less than 24 hours since my last shave I will lather up and then just do a single pass ATG. I find this works really well for me since my beard is still pretty short. I can get an extremely good shave just going against the grain.

After I’m done shaving I will rinse off my face and rinse out my brush. I then dry my face with a towel and apply an after shave balm to my face.

There you have it! My typical shave with a Dovo Shavette. What does your typical shave look like?
