So lately I’ve been shaving a lot with the Dovo shavette green insert while making videos for shavewiththomas.com’s YouTube channel. I hadn’t made a post in awhile so I figured why not write about the green insert?
In case you are brand new to the Dovo shavette, there are three inserts for it: red, black, and green. Each of these inserts will only take a certain type of blade.
The green insert takes the Personna hair shaper blades. Now you maybe wondering, “Why on earth would I shave my face with something that is called a ‘hair shaper’?” If you are wondering that you aren’t alone. 😉 I’ve pondered that very question myself even though I do shave with it lol.
The only answer I can get really think of is “Why not? If it’s sharp enough and smooth enough to shave your beard with it then you might as well give it a whirl.”
Shaving with the green insert does have a different feel than both the red and the black insert. On some of the websites that sell the shavette inserts they say that the green inserts give a feel similar to that of shaving with a straight razor. I tend to agree with that statement.
The personna blades are slightly heavier than the blades for the red and black inserts. It’s kind of hard to describe the feeling of shaving with it. The green insert just feels a little bit sturdier to me. I realize that might not make a lot of sense, but that’s the best I can describe it.
The insert itself will cost you a couple of bucks. The hair shaper blades are pretty expensive, relatively speaking, when you compare them with the blades for the red insert. They usually come out to around a $1.00/$1.50 per blade depending on what website you buy them from. For comparison purposes you can find DE blades for the red insert for what amounts to 20 cents each all day long.
I tend to replace my blades pretty often since I get bored and want to use a different insert. The most amount of shaves I’ve done with a green insert so far is 4 or 5 shaves. When I shave I do two passes. I haven’t attempted more shaves than that, but I’m pretty confident that the hair shaper blades could easily handle at least a few more shaves before they get dull. I can’t guarantee it, but I’d be really surprised if they didn’t.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this blog post. If you have any comments or questions post them below. Also, feel free to share your opinions and/or experiences with the green insert and personna blades. 🙂
