It isn’t always easy to learn where to buy a straight razor. It is very hard to find local shops or stores that sell straight razors and the proper supplies that go with them. That being said, there are a lot of places on the Internet that offer to sell straight razors. Not all of them will sell strops, shaving mugs with applications brushes or the right kind of soap to use in the mug.
The best idea is to learn as much as you can about what to look for and what you should avoid when buying a straight razor. Then go online and start looking at the various sites that offer straight razors for sale.
This is the easiest way to learn where to buy a straight razor. I recommend that you only buy new straight razors, because you never really know what you will get if you buy a used one, and used razors are usually not returnable for a refund.
Without going in to a very detail description, I will give you the basics of what to look for in order to get a decent straight razor. You want a straight back, barber tip razor made of either stainless steel or a carbon steel blade. The handle is best if it is made of a hard wood or bone. Today many people are going with a plastic handle and many of them are fairly good and will last a long time.
If you aren’t buying a brand new razor you want to make sure there are no cracks, chips or pits in the blade or it simply will not hone properly and you won’t get as nice a shave. If you are buying a new razor either get a stainless steel or carbon steel blade because they hold their edge better.
Disposable straight razors can be an excellent alternative if you don’t want to be bothered with the maintenance of a traditional straight razor. There are lots of people that like them because they don’t want to spend a lot of time and effort maintaining the blade on their straight razor.
When you buy your razor you should also get a strop, razor stone, soap bowl and brush. You will also want to be able to get some good soap to put in the bowl or you will end up using a soap that isn’t that good for your shave.
Make sure you know what the return policy is, if they have one, and exactly what the terms are for a return.
