Buy Straight Razor Guide – Things to Remember

More and more men are starting to use straight razors for shaving these days. You can get them in a variety of places, such as local shops or online stores. You can even get them on eBay if you are trying to find a deal. Of course, you should learn what to avoid and what to look for as you go on your buy straight razor quest. The first thing you need to know is that there are scales that are designed to protect the blade itself when you are not using it, as well as stop you from accidentally cutting yourself.

If you have never used a straight razor before, then it’s probably a good idea to hold off on spending a lot of money. You will most likely love them, but there is a chance that they won’t be for you.

Ideal places to look to buy straight razor include Solingen and Sheffield. While you will find some very cheaply priced Far Eastern types, you are much better off avoiding them. They do NOT have a good reputation for quality blades.

The blade depth should be a 5/8 hollow ground blade. The reason that these are recommended is because they are generally easier to handle and more common, making them cheaper to buy.

It’s a good idea to make sure that the blade you get is not worn before you buy straight razor. If the seller says something about minimal hone wear, for example, then you should probably jump on the deal. You need to also look out for cracks and nicks, even if they are very small or insignificant.

Don’t buy any straight razor where the blade has large, flattened areas on top and the edges. That usually means the blade is too worn out to shave well.

When you go to buy straight razor for the first time, it might be a little intimidating, but if you keep those things in mind and don’t jump on the first one you see you will end up with a really good blade for pretty cheap. Chances are good that you will love using it.
